Maxime Herve, PhD

Dr Maxime Herve is a global scientist. Trained in France at the Pasteur Institute, he obtained his PhD in Immunology and Parasitology after a first experience into life sciences in West Africa for the development of a vaccine against Schistosomiasis.

He has worked for more than 25 years in biomedical R&D and innovation in both academia and private sector on 4 different continents. Prior to joining CSII, he worked in hospital settings in New York, focusing on molecular immunology, then moved to Singapore to develop new pharmaceuticals for several neglected infectious diseases. After joining consumer healthcare companies, he created a line range of natural products focusing on various types of pain and inflammation.

Dr Maxime’s course deal with two major public health topics: (1) the impact of climate change on various aspects of health and climate change-related health conditions, and (2) the current changes in the personal healthcare management.

""""The most precious gift we have is our health, and what is currently happening across the globe is significantly affecting the essence of our existence on this planet; all the way to our most precious asset, our health. Since I started to realize the major consequences of climate change on our health when I started to work on infectious diseases 25 years ago, I have always wanted to help the society, improve our health and wellbeing, through innovation, to tackle this major crisis.""”

Adaptive health solutions in response to climate change

This course aims at articulating the strong link between the long term changes of our environment and our health and wellbeing. Students will discuss how we can mitigate and adapt our own behaviour towards a better health. This course helps to develop skills to understand the fundamental connection between health and climate change, and how to mitigate the consequences on our health and wellbeing to develop health resilience for the future.

While innovation is at the core of human adaptation to tackle this major problem, a number of basic principles needs to be understood in order to be able to develop strategies for a better and healthier future.

In this course, students will learn about the fundamentals of climate change that directly or indirectly affect our health on a daily basis. Thailand being a country among the most affected in the world by climate change, we will go through many examples and major health challenges that the country, and the world, are already experiencing. They will understand the basics on how to mitigate the risks, develop a health resilient mindset to be able to propose solutions through innovation.

After completing this course, students should understand what it takes to be an innovator in Health and Wellbeing to face one of the biggest challenges that humankind has ever faced, have some basic skills in several innovative domains related to health resilience, and be able to help the society to develop a strong mindset against climate change through innovation for their future.
